About the Speaker.

Matt Drew | Head Distiller for the Montana Whiskey Company

Washington State native Matt Drew presents “Barley and Malt Applications and Considerations in Whiskey Production,” a course designed to offer unique and specific insights into barley and malt’s unique and distinctive roles specific to whiskey production.

 Previously the Maltster for Bently Heritage Estate Distillery near Lake Tahoe, Matt’s responsibilities began in the field with cultivar selection, field trials and quality evaluation and continued throughout malting and milling. He also worked closely with distillers to track performance data which he used to ensure consistent quality and flavor.

 He holds advanced malting certifications from the Canadian Malting Barley Technical Centre, the French Institute of Beverages, Brewing, and Malting and Craft Maltsters Guild, and a Wine and Spirits Education Trust level two certification with distinction in spirits.

 Matt lives in Missoula, MT where he is the Head Distiller for Montana Whiskey Co., a malt consultant, and host of “Single Malt Matters: The American Single Malt Whisky Podcast.”
