NCI Video Production | November 2023 Update

This month, the video production team has a little bit of everything to share. Video projects in November ranged from green screen live action to detail-oriented animation keyframing. Read on to find out about the exciting new animation endeavor as well as how NCI developed their technique for professional lecture recording.

A Newfound Passion For Animation:

NCI’s video production team is always looking for other creative avenues for videos. One such idea has been the use of animation, particularly for promoting NCI’s many handbooks and workbooks. This endeavor is meant as an improvement of last month’s more simplified handbook promos for the Wheat Quality Handbook.

The background project of the month has been an exciting one. Currently, the team is putting on the finishing touches to a handbook page-flipping animation promo video for the Your Kitchen to Consumer. The video is a combination of all of the editing team’s favorite transitions and techniques.

The Your Kitchen to Consumer Workbook is available now. Stay tuned for the finished promo video.

NCI On-Demand Course Video:

One of the top priorities of on-demand courses for this month has been the Future of Feeding Soybean Meal and Other Non-Grain Ingredients. Many hours went into this course - especially utilizing the best practice techniques the NCI video team has worked hard to create.

As mentioned in last month’s blog, the focus on quality increase for online lecture recordings prompted the use of green screen techniques. That was put into the working field as the lecturers poured into the NCI auditorium for recording. The best look utilizes removing the greenscreen background for a transparent background look, then placing the video of the presenter overtop the full-screen presentation. This leads to an immersive experience, so the presenter appears actively involved in the presentation, and the full-size presentation is easy on the eyes for viewing content.

Presenters for the Future of Feeding Soybean Meal course included NDSU’s Clairmont Clementson and Ken Hellevang, NDSP’s Bill McBee, and NCI’s Shane Mueller. Contributors of virtual recordings included several others, such as NCI’s Kim Koch.

Where to Find the NCI Video Team Next:

You can be assured that next month’s blog will come with a complete recap of the Prairie Grains Conference annual filming by NCI. Find us there December 13-14, 2023 at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks.

The to-do list for filming this year includes the usual On-Farm Research Summit, Wheat and Soybean research reporting sessions, and keynote speakers. New this year will be an in-room live stream of one of the exciting demonstrations.

To conclude once again, the team is still looking forward to the Peltier Complex move, scheduled to being in April of 2024 and conclude in May of 2024. Keep checking back each month for the next video production update.
