Participants Educated on the Uses and Benefits of High Oleic Soybean Oil

The Northern Crops Institute (NCI) recently held its second course educating participants on the uses and benefits of high oleic soybean oil.

The day and a half course ran December 3rd and 4th, 2019 and covered topics including consumer trends, nutritional benefits, the economics of high oleic soybean oil, and what is in store for the future of high oleic soybean oil.

“As with all of our courses, this course utilized industry professionals, and hands on activities, to give our participants a well-rounded educational experience. Participants were able to physically see, and taste, the difference that high oleic soybean oil makes,” said Mark Jirik, the director of NCI.

When asked why NCI decided to offer a course specifically on high oleic soybean oil, Jirik stated that “there continues to be a need for healthier oils, we want educate the market and consumers on innovative products such as high oleic soybean oil. If you increase the knowledge of the industry, you can increase the demand, which helps to support farmers.”

In addition to being a healthier alternative, high oleic soybean oil also has a longer fry and shelf life, and has a neutral flavor profile which allows for less flavor transfer between batches.

This course was made possible by sponsors from the North Dakota Soybean Council and Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council.
