Course Overview:
This course focuses on the mechanics of soybean and soybean meal procurement, and is designed for individuals with purchasing responsibilities. Academic and industry authorities lecture on cash and futures markets, and soybean merchandisers guide you through the full complexity of the international markets. The course provides an overview of the U.S. soybean and soybean meal handling and marketing system and the risk management tools available to assist buyers in purchasing U.S. soybeans and soybean meal that meets quality needs at the best value.
Daily lectures and exercises will be held both at NCI and in the NDSU Commodity Trading Room, a high-tech room that provides trading simulation using live market information. After five days of learning and practice in Fargo, North Dakota, the course will travel to the U.S. Pacific Northwest for tours of soybean and soybean meal export facilities.
You will learn from experts on cash and futures markets; meet with soybean and soybean meal merchandisers about the complexity of the international commodity markets; share day-to-day experiences with colleagues from other countries and U.S. merchants; and experience the U.S. soybean handling system.
