NCI Video Production | August 2023 Update

Today NDSU welcomes back students to campus for another school year. This truly signifies the final stretch of a busy summer. The NCI video team is ready to pass the baton from this busy summer into a busy fall as courses continue going strong in-person and online. Read on to find out what the cameras have been up to this month.

NCI Course Filming:

Once again the hot topic in video work for NCI was the multiple stone milling shoots. Earlier this month, a two-day shoot in NCI’s bake lab took place on baking with stone milled flour. This is one of the final videos for the Stone Mill Basics online course set to debut mid-September of this year.

On the in-person course side, most notably was the annual INTSOY course. Stay tuned for a recap video coming soon featuring NCI Program Manager Brian Sorenson. INTSOY this year was a full class again with lots of great participant engagement and discussion.

Filming with Director Mark Jirik:

Accounting for two of this month’s final video total, the NCI video crew had a two-shoot session with Director Mark Jirik providing an introduction to two of the upcoming on-demand courses.

For a little behind-the-scenes, here’s a look at the setup process: First, the preferred shooting location of choice is the NCI auditorium. Equipped with a world map and American flag behind an NCI podium, this makes a nice backdrop for shooting. The two-man setup crew broke a new setup record on the state-of-the-art teleprompter equipment, coming in at only 12 and a half minutes. Next up is the lighting setup for excellent color and illumination. Finally the cameras and microphones arrive on set. This shoot the NCI video team was able to test out some new audio equipment. It worked great!

InstaPro Extruder Shoot:

The most recent equipment shoot for NCI took place at the Feedmill. There, NCI Feedmill Manager Shane Mueller ran soybeans through the InstaPro extruder in the animal feed world. The process was documented on video with a voiceover to come.

The process took about a half a day to shoot to capture all angles of the entire process. This video will be used in NCI’s future online course on full fat soy.
