Grain Processing Area

The Grain Processing Area is equipped with a range of laboratory-scale milling and analysis equipment, including bench top hammer mill, cyclone mill, sample divider, and grain analyzers, supporting innovative research, product development, and hands-on training in grain science.

Benchtop Milling Equipment

  • Laboratory Hammer Mill: Crushes and grinds small grain or seed samples using rotating hammers, producing a particle size suitable for general laboratory analysis of composition and quality.

  • Cyclone Sample Mill: Grinds small grain or seed samples into fine, uniform flour or powder using a high-speed rotor and built-in sieve for consistent particle size, preparing them for accurate laboratory analysis.

Grain Grading Equipment

  • Boerner Divider: Splits a grain or seed sample into smaller, uniform portions that are truly representative of the whole, using internal channels to evenly distribute kernels and prevent sampling bias, ensuring accurate and reliable laboratory testing for quality, moisture, protein, and other analyses.

  • Grain Analysis Computer: Rapidly measures grain characteristics such as moisture and test weight providing data for quality assessment and research.

  • Test Weight Equipment: Measures the weight of grain per unit volume, providing a quick indicator of grain quality, density, and market value.
