Feed Production Center

NCI Feed Production Center

The NCI Feed Production Center is a hub for education and technical assistance in feed mill management and manufacturing technologies, serving both domestic and international clients. With a daily production capacity of 60 tons of meal feed or 24 tons of pelleted feed, this facility includes equipment such as an I-Controls automation system, Bliss hammermill, RMS two-pair roller mill, Scott Equipment Company twin shaft mixer, and a California Pellet Mill backed up by a Colorado Mill Equipment counterflow cooler and crumbler.

Established in 1990, the Feed Production Center was created as a platform for hands-on training and education in feed manufacturing. In addition to training, the facility produces feed for North Dakota State University’s animal research units and supports research projects across Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

The Feed Production Center provides: feed production center for NDSU livestock, educational and technical training, and technical services for private industry and commodity groups.

EXPANSION

The NCI Feed Production Center recently completed significant renovations and an expansion to better serve the growing needs of the feed industry. Upgrades include:

  • Renovated classrooms and laboratories

  • Expanded warehouse and ingredient storage

  • Replacement of the 1950s-era pelleting line with modern equipment, including a new feeder, conditioner, pellet mill, cooler, and crumbler

  • Installation of exterior storage bins, doubling previous capacity to accommodate new ingredients and product development

A new dedicated extrusion area now houses our Insta-Pro high shear dry extruder, further expanding processing capabilities. Beyond equipment upgrades, this facility now offers twice the education and lab space, creating more opportunities for collaboration among industry professionals, commodity groups, university researchers, and feed milling experts.
