Feed Manufacturing Technology Workshop

Fourteen graduate students from the University of Minnesota and South Dakota State University are attending a three-day workshop at the NCI Feed Production Center. The Feed Manufacturing Technology Workshop is led by Kim Koch, Ph.D., (right), NCI Feed Center Manager. Topics for the workshop include introduction to the livestock feed industry with a general overview of complete feeds, base mixes, and premixes; storage, use and tracking; regulatory oversight and compliance; size reduction; mixing including design and operation, and defining and measuring adequacy of mix; and pelleting, expanding and extrusion. The workshop also provided several opportunities for hands-on processing at the feedmill.
