Fargo, N.D. -- Who could have predicted thirty years ago that KFC would be selling chicken in Tokyo? Or that your income tax returns would be processed in India? This is the international business climate of today.

While doing business with international buyers can be very interesting, it can also prove to be a little intimidating if you don't do your homework. Being familiar with the country's culture, knowing how to present a business card, or properly eat a formal meal will allow you to concentrate on your business negotiations.

Northern Crops Institute (NCI) will sponsor a daylong seminar, “Increase Your Success in the International Arena,” on international protocol Monday, February 27 at the Fargo Holiday Inn. Dr. Pat Berglund, director of Northern Crops Institute in Fargo, N.D., will lead the seminar. Berglund is a corporate etiquette and international protocol trainer, certified by The Protocol School of Washington.

The seminar will address many areas of international protocol including how to present a business card, make introductions, present gifts, and appreciate cultural differences. During a four-course noon luncheon, Berglund will demonstrate appropriate table etiquette for a formal meal.

Dr. Peter Geib will share his perspective on business climates in China and India. Geib has conducted research on strategic management in transition economies for over 16 years in Central Europe and the Far East. He is professor of management and international business at Minnesota State University Moorhead and coordinates MSUM's International Business Program.

Each country has its unique styles and cultural patterns. A wise businessperson can predict how people in certain cultures will speak, dress, act, negotiate, and make decisions. You can use protocol and personal diplomacy to tip the scales in your favor, no matter where you conduct business.

Cost for the seminar is $100. More information and registration forms are available from the educational link at www.northern-crops.com or call 701-231-7736 to register.
