2005 Midwest Specialty Grains Conference Dates Announced Fargo, N.D., U.S.A. – After a resounding first-year success, the Midwest Shippers Association has announced the dates for its second Midwest Specialty Grains Conference and Trade Show. The 2005 conference will be August 23-24, 2005 at the Ramada Inn Airport and Thunderbird Convention Center in Bloomington, Minn. Next year's conference will continue to focus on identity-preserved grains and relationships between buyers and sellers. Adam Sobieski, project manager for Midwest Shippers Association, indicated the 2005 location offers a facility twice as big as that of 2004 to accommodate more people and exhibits. “Three hundred people from 27 states and eight countries attended the first Midwest Specialty Grains Conference. We received good feedback from our international guests, regional processors and producers who reported excellent networking opportunities,” said Sobieski. Carrol Duerr, general manager of the conference, said, “I think the biggest things that were accomplished through the 2004 conference are the networking and the relationships that were created. People have been calling since the conference to tell me about the business they are doing. That is the real measuring stick for us and sets the stage for next year,” he concluded. Midwest Shippers Association is a regional cooperative association that promotes marketing of specialty grains from the upper Midwest. Bob Zelenka is executive director of the association. Sponsors for the first annual Midwest Specialty Grains Conference were: Minnesota Grain and Feed Association; Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council ; Minnesota Corn Research & Promotion Council ; Colfax (ND) Farmers Elevator Inc.; Commercial Vegetable Growers of North Dakota Co-op; The Cooperative Foundation; Minnesota Department of Agriculture; Port of Tacoma-Central Division, Mich.; Iowa Soybean Promotion Board; North Dakota Department of Agriculture; North Dakota Soybean Council; Northern Crops Institute; Northland Organic Foods/Seeds & Grain Corp.; Cummings Ag., Inc.; Evergreen, Chicago; Fosston (MN) Co-op Elevator Association; North Dakota Corn Utilization Council; and Northwest Seed Cleaning Service. # # # For more information, contact: Story by Sally Sologuk, Northern Crops Institute
