Producers Can Learn IP Crop Benefits at Specialty Grains Conference

Minneapolis, MN – The 2004 Midwest Specialty Grains Conference and Trade Show is set for September 8-10 and focuses on bringing specialty grain buyers and sellers together. “Building Relationships in the IP World” is the theme of the conference. The conference, sponsored by the Midwest Shippers' Association, is at the Minneapolis (MN) Airport Marriott Hotel. Producers, processors, and end-users are invited to attend.

Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Gene Hugoson will address the opening session on Thursday, September 9, speaking on the future of IP production in the Midwest. "Although we are located in the center of the United States, this region has excellent transportation options available to move our quality products across the country and around the world," said Commissioner Hugoson.  "This conference will provide a unique opportunity to observe and experience the entire identity-preserved process from producer to processor to consumer," he concluded.

Breakout session topics will include IP transportation, food safety, traceability, global outlook, Midwest IP soybeans, specialty corn products, specialty grain processing, and Midwest quality advantages.

“The U.S. Upper Midwest is quickly becoming the global center for production of identity-preserved (IP) specialty grain. This conference is a great opportunity for producers to gain an understanding of where the IP industry is going and will help producers identify whether or not they want to become an IP player,” said Carrol Duerr, general manager of Midwest Shippers' Association. “We have more than 15 international companies registered for the conference who are anxious to connect with producers,” he concluded. The trade show has also attracted a capacity number of vendors, according to Duerr.

For registration details and fees, visit the Midwest Shippers Association's website at www.grainconference.com or call (612) 252-1453. Early bird registration fees are in effect until Friday, August 13.
